Thyroid Conditions and Final Expense Insurance

Thyroid conditions are extremely common in seniors — and the vast majority are fully accepted for level benefit final expense coverage.

Hypothyroidism

Almost universally accepted. Controlled hypothyroidism managed with levothyroxine or similar medication is one of the most straightforward health conditions in the final expense market. Nearly all carriers accept this without restriction or additional premium.

Hyperthyroidism

Generally accepted when controlled. Hyperthyroidism managed with medication, radioactive iodine treatment, or surgery is typically accepted for level benefit coverage. Uncontrolled hyperthyroidism with recent cardiac complications may affect options.

Thyroid Cancer History

The outcome depends on type — papillary and follicular are viewed more favorably than medullary or anaplastic. Time since treatment and current remission status are key. Papillary thyroid cancer in remission for 2+ years is frequently accepted for level benefit at several of our carriers.

Thyroid Nodules

Benign thyroid nodules under monitoring are typically not a factor in underwriting at all.
